I've never cooked with Chinese herbs before. Are these beginner friendly?
Absolutely.
That's exactly why we created FAMMá.
For many people, Traditional Chinese herbs can feel intimidating because they're unfamiliar or difficult to source. We take care of all of that for you by thoughtfully sourcing, measuring, and packaging each formula.
Simply rinse the herbs, add your protein or broth, and let everything cook.
Our goal is to make generations of herbal wisdom approachable so you can easily incorporate these nourishing herbs into everyday life.
Are these difficult to cook?
Not at all.
Our kits are designed to be as simple as possible.
Simply rinse the herbs, add everything to your pot along with your protein or broth, and let it cook. We've already measured and packed the herbs for you.
No searching for specialty herbs. No measuring. No guesswork.
What can I cook these in?
Our soup and congee kits can be prepared in:
-
Stovetop
-
Rice cooker
-
Slow cooker
-
Instant Pot
We highly recommend an Instant Pot. It's a game changer for herbal cooking because it extracts flavor and nourishment from roots, mushrooms, and bones much more quickly than traditional simmering while requiring very little hands-on time.
What do I need to add?
That's the easy part.
Most TCM Herbal Soup Kits only require:
-
Chicken or pork with bones
-
Water
Congee Kits simply require:
-
Your favorite protein or bone broth
Seaweed Soup and Pho Soup are best prepared with:
-
Beef bones or oxtail
Everything else is already measured and packed for you.
What if I'm already past 42 days postpartum?
No problem.
Whether you've completed the progression or are months or even years postpartum, we highly recommend our Women's Vitality Collection.
Our Women's Vitality TCM Herbal Soup Kits and Vitality Botanical Tisanes were created for ongoing nourishment and are wonderful for women through menstruation, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, and everyday wellness.
Are your herbal formulas safe?
Our Postpartum Recovery Progression is designed only for women after childbirth. It is not intended for use during pregnancy.
Our postpartum herbal soup formulas were inspired by traditional postpartum practices and developed with guidance from postpartum care centers in China, Taiwan, and Singapore.
We intentionally selected herbs that have long been prepared as nourishing foods and soups, creating formulas that are approachable for everyday home cooking while honoring generations of traditional wisdom.
Every woman and every recovery is different.
If you experienced a medically complex pregnancy, traumatic delivery, significant postpartum complications, or have underlying medical conditions, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner or your healthcare provider before beginning any herbal program.
Because some herbs may interact with prescription medications, including blood thinners and other medications, please consult your physician or healthcare provider before consuming our TCM Herbal Soup Kits if you are taking prescription medications.
Our congee kits, Seaweed Soup, Pho Soup, and botanical tisanes are generally prepared with food ingredients and culinary herbs that are suitable for most people. As with any food product, please review the ingredient list carefully and avoid products containing ingredients you are allergic or sensitive to.
What is a tisane?
A tisane is the proper name for an herbal infusion.
Unlike true tea, which comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, our botanical tisanes are made entirely from herbs, roots, berries, flowers, mushrooms, fruits, and spices.
They are naturally caffeine free.
Why do your tisanes take longer to brew?
Most tea bags contain finely cut herbs or tea leaves that brew in just a few minutes.
Our tisanes contain generous amounts of whole botanicals like roots, bark, berries, mushrooms, flowers, citrus, and spices. These naturally take longer to fully release their flavor and beneficial plant compounds.
For the best cup, steep or gently simmer your tisane for 25 to 45 minutes.
Do your tisanes contain caffeine?
No.
Every FAMMá botanical tisane is naturally caffeine free.
What do I do with the herbs after brewing?
Each tisane contains two parts.
Inside the cotton muslin sachet are the herbs intended for brewing. Once you've finished steeping, simply compost or discard the sachet and its contents.
Outside the sachet you'll find edible botanicals like jujubes, goji berries, shiitake mushrooms, citrus, ginger, longan, lily bulb, and other nourishing ingredients.
How many cups does each tisane make?
Each sachet is designed for approximately 24 ounces of water and typically brews three 8-ounce cups.
Many customers enjoy steeping the same sachet a second time for a lighter infusion.
How long does it take to prepare the soups and congees?
Preparation only takes about 5 minutes.
Simply rinse the herbs, add everything to your cooking vessel with your protein or broth, then let time do the work.
Most of the cooking is completely hands-off.
Why use Traditional Chinese herbs?
For thousands of years, women across Asia have incorporated herbs, roots, berries, mushrooms, and nourishing foods into everyday meals to support different stages of life.
At FAMMá, we're simply making that tradition easier by sourcing quality herbs, measuring each formula, and packaging everything into convenient kits that anyone can prepare at home.
Can I season the soups?
Absolutely.
Our kits provide the herbal foundation. Feel free to season with salt, pepper, soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, scallions, cilantro, or your family's favorite seasonings.
Can my family enjoy these soups too?
Absolutely.
Many families prepare one pot for everyone to enjoy. While the postpartum progression is thoughtfully arranged for new mothers, these soups and congees are wholesome meals the whole family can appreciate.
Are these meals intended to replace all of my daily food?
No.
The Postpartum Recovery Progression provides one generous serving each day to complement a balanced postpartum diet. Continue enjoying regular meals, staying well hydrated, and following your healthcare provider's recommendations.
Are these soups spicy?
No.
Most of our soups are mild, comforting, and family friendly. Their warmth comes primarily from ingredients like ginger rather than spicy heat.
Can I freeze leftovers?
Yes.
Prepared soups and congees freeze beautifully. Portion into airtight containers and freeze for future meals.
How should I store the unopened kits?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Once opened, reseal the pouch or transfer any unused contents to an airtight container.
How long do the kits last?
Our soup kits, congee kits, and botanical tisanes are shelf stable and are best stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Because we use real herbs, roots, mushrooms, grains, and fruits without artificial preservatives, we recommend enjoying them within 12 months for the best flavor and quality.
Once opened, reseal the pouch tightly or transfer any unused contents to an airtight container and use promptly.
Are your herbs high quality?
Absolutely.
Sourcing exceptional ingredients, especially Traditional Chinese herbs, is one of our highest standards. Herbal quality can vary tremendously in freshness, purity, and potency.
We carefully source every botanical that goes into our soups and tisanes, and we even dehydrate many of our own fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, and herbs in-house whenever possible to ensure they meet our standards.
Why did Chef Lando create FAMMá?
After more than 15 years of cooking for postpartum mothers and clients with chronic illness, Chef Lando saw how difficult it was for families to source quality Traditional Chinese herbs or know how to prepare them.
FAMMá was created to remove that barrier.
Our mission is simple: make generations of ancestral wisdom accessible through thoughtfully sourced herbal soup kits, congees, and botanical tisanes that fit into modern life with just a few minutes of preparation.
